Climate Resilient Monterey Bay and MBCAAN Media

Launched in Fall 2024, $71 million Climate Resilient Monterey Bay (CRMB) grant funds climate resilience in the Monterey Bay Area, fosters collaboration between 20+ partners through the Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network (MBCAAN), and ensures that our communities are equipped to respond to growing climate-related disasters together.

Awarded $71.1 million in July 2024, the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation received the Climate Resilience Monterey Bay (CRMB) grant from NOAA’s Climate Resilience Regional Challenge! This funding supports collaboration with 21 partner organizations to implement adaptation strategies, creates a regional, unified approach to tackling flood and wildfire risks, and expands workforce development opportunities through the Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network (MBCAAN). 🌎 This game-changing cooperative grant, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, funds critical initiatives in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. These projects aim to boost ecosystem and habitat resilience and protect local communities, led by a wide-ranging network of local governments, nonprofits, and academic institutions.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished in the first year of the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation’s Climate Resilient Monterey Bay grant! 🌟🌿 • 31 community members are now certified drone pilots, ready to support resilience from the sky. 🚁 • 89 enrollments in climate resilience courses and trainings — building knowledge and local capacity. 📚 • 800 acres of land actively grazed to help reduce wildfire threats and restore ecological balance. 🐄🔥 • 143 acres of invasive plants removed — blowing past our annual goal in just a few months! 🌱🙌 • 30+ organizations coming together every quarter to collaborate on climate solutions. 🤝 • 41 participants engaged in weaving Indigenous and non-Indigenous voices into this work. 🌍🧡 Thanks for being part of the momentum driving a more resilient Monterey Bay!
