About Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network
Climate Resilient Monterey Bay establishes the Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network (MBCAAN) to coordinate and plan for future adaptation and resilience actions in the Monterey Bay region.
MBCAAN will ensure broad and inclusive participation of local and regional governments, educational institutions, researchers, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
Acting as a forum for active information sharing and planning among jurisdictions, MBCAAN develops regional climate adaptation strategies, identifies and pursues funding for projects, and monitors the implementation and effectiveness of adaptation actions.

Our Vision
We cultivate regional collaboration between non-profits, educational institutions, Tribes, and governments for climate resilience.
We develop nature-based solutions to reduce the catastrophic effects of flooding and strengthen community resilience.
We come together to create a multi-level, integrated workforce development program with multiple entry points and outcomes, from professional training certificates to skilled labor, and advanced degrees, all focused on climate adaptation and resilience skills.
Proposed Activities
& Intended Outcomes
To accomplish our vision for resilience, CMSF, along with our partners, proposes four Adaptation Strategies to augment regional collaboration, workforce development, and the implementation of high-priority adaptation actions.
The complementary activities within these four Adaptation Strategies will use nature-based solutions to address two of the region’s highest priority climate risks – coastal flooding and wildfire – while building enduring capacity through workforce development and regional collaboration.
Our History
Monterey Bay Climate Adaptation Action Network (MBCAAN) was created after the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation (CMSF) was selected to receive funding through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Resilience Regional Challenge (CRRC).
This transformational grant, with funding from the Inflation Reduction Act, brings critical funding to the Monterey Bay area and provides Climate Resilience Adaptation funds for dozens of projects led by CMSF and a coalition of 21 partners, including local governments, academic institutions, and other nonprofits in a grant and initiative named Climate Resilient Monterey Bay (CRMB).
