Black Oystercatchers face a range of environmental and anthropogenic threats. As the coastline changes, even minor shifts in the sea level can significantly affect the rocky intertidal zone and diminish their remaining habitat. Lauren will describe how remote sensing and elevation models can be used to quantify their climate resilience for them, which ones face the highest risk and what that means for conservation priorities in coming years.


Monthly lectures are held at the Izzie Abbott Lecture Hall at Hopkins Marine Station. This lecture is hosted by Monterey Audubon Society and does not require an RSVP. The doors will open at 5:30 for snacks, beverages, and socializing. The lecture will begin at 6:00.
